Value per Hour - The 30-Day Blitz

Not all developer hours are created equal.  We have all heard of the "10x developer" - the idea that some developers, because of their talent, ability to handle ambiguity, and ability to ask the right questions, can, as Joel Spolsky says, hit the high notes.

At Magenic, we sell a high end product - Microsoft-oriented software development professionals who are "at the top of their game".  We have numerous MVP award winners (8 at last count, I believe), numerous published authors (including, of course, Rocky Lhotka, as well as a few dozen others), and we take the lead in community building, running .NET User Groups, Code Camps, and similar functions.  Yet, despite all that brain power, the individuals who work here tend to be down-to-earth, solution focused people, who understand how to work with all kinds of teams, whether it be a mixed client team, or a dedicated Magenic team.  We don't hire prima-donnas.

When you bring Magenic in, you don't just get a butt-in-a-chair who pounds out code, you get someone who can anticipate your needs, ask the right questions, and leverage our organization to make each Magenic-Hour much more efficient than an Hour from many of our competitors.  I can confidently state that Magenic consultants deliver value faster than most of our competitors do.

Why all the setup?  It is my position that nominal hourly rate is an obsolete means of measuring cost when it comes to hiring a software developer.  The correct measurement is the spread between value delivered per hour and cost per hour - aka the "value versus cost delta".  Magenic creates the conditions required for this delta to be very high, specifically:

* Access to high end equipment

* A support network and knowledge base that all consultants use to solve problems

* A unique relationship with Microsoft itself - we partner with Microsoft at the highest levels possible

* A strict hiring regimen that brings in "the best of the best" - aka "smart and gets things done"

* A great place to work - a place that keeps it's consultants very happy and engaged - leading to more effective consultants

Of course, there are times... too many, where the decision to go forward with Magenic or not comes down to an issue with raw nominal hourly rate.  And I can see why some clients would be skeptical of the value argument - it is one that many other consultancies make and fail to deliver on - of course every consulting company says they have the best people, best processes, etc.  Despite that we have good evidence about our value proposition - MVP Awards, Partner of the Year awards, etc. - the rate issue can still be a problem in some cases.

The 30-day blitz can help with this.  The 30-day blitz is, among other things, about overcoming this skepticism and showing just how much value per hour we can deliver in a fixed timebox, with a result you can use on "day 31".  Combining "10x developers" that Magenic hires, with the focus on results that the 30-day blitz provides, is an ideal way for those clients who may still be skeptical of our message to "get the proof".

If you are interested in results in 30-days, I would be happy to put you in touch with the right people here who can make it happen.  You can contact me personally (aarone@magenic.com), or contact our sales and marketing team (marketing@magenic.com).
